Say...

...is there some sort of election going on in a small, unrepresentative, self-important state today?

If there is, I predict that a Democratic candidate will win and a Republican candidate will win.

Prove me wrong!

So Much For That

Across the pond:

Channel 4 has postponed transmission of its "wank week" programming in a bid to avoid further controversy in the aftermath of the Celebrity Big Brother racism row.

The network's short season of three late night documentaries about masturbation was to have been broadcast next month, but has now been taken out of the schedule.

[...]

There is said to be concern at senior levels within Channel 4 about the negative publicity the masturbation documentaries have already attracted.

Still, it would've been better than "Everybody Loves Raymond."

But what isn't?

WTF?

Melvin Laird, Defense Secretary under Nixon (that should tell you something) has an op-ed in today's WaPo instructing Congress about what it needs to do about Iraq and terrorism. In short, Laird says we should stay the course rather than cut and run. Along with slapping George McGovern for calling for the withdrawal of American forces in southeast Asia in 1972 and demanding a larger defense budget, Laird writes:

The best thing Congress could do now is look at the bigger picture with civility and bipartisanship. America needs a broad national security strategy whose elements include the defense of democracy at home and abroad, the economy, the environment, health care, Social Security and commitments to our allies. In military jargon, simply fighting terrorism is not strategic; it is tactical. In crafting a larger national security strategy, Congress needs to both know and inform the will of the people.

While it's always amusing to hear Repubs call for civility and bipartisanship - they only do that when they're out of power - what the above laundry list has to do with Iraq I can't even guess.

You just can't take people like this seriously.
