On the road ergo light posting for a few days.
.
I'm having some technical difficulties.
Be back later.
.
...my telecommunications woes are a thing of the past.
I still have to deal with a partially fried computer (happily not the important one).
I blame Ted Stevens.
.
Late last night lightning vaporized my telephone and internet. It apparently won't be fixed until sometime tomorrow - don't get me started about Verizon. Happily, someone in my neighborhood has unsecured WiFi so I might just be able to use the Series of Tubes anyway but I could be cut off at any time. At any rate, I'll try to carry on as normal.
And don't get me started about Verizon.
.
Just sayin'
.
Tied up today and tonight. Some more Izzard to keep you company:
.
New additions to the blogroll: Roy Edroso takes the right down a peg or twelve at alicublog, the wonderful Susie Madrak whacks them at Suburban Guerrilla, TRex snarks a trail at IamTRex, the Rude Pundit is, well, rude, local boy Bram goes local at the local Pittsburgh Comet, and a gathering of fine femmes can be found at the Pittsburgh Women's Blogging Society.
Those, and many more, can be found to the left (!).
.
Off to Philadelphia for a few days so spotty posting although the regular weekend stuff should appear as if by magic.
Phun Philly Phact: It was in Philadelphia that the colonists electrocuted King George III with Dr. Franklin's lightning rod.
It's a Phun Philly Phact!
.
This morning I have to deal with another squirrel invasion (shoot the bastards!) and am otherwise otherwise in and out so light to no posting.
Meanwhile, see what happens when you don't negotiate in good faith?
.
As you have probably noticed I'm on one of my periodic breaks.
I'll do the usual weekend stuff but for now, at least, the less news I read the happier I am. Maybe I'll throw in something fun now and then.
Like it or lump it. :-P
.
Busy busy busy.
Be back this afternoon.
.
Much to be done.
Anyway, there's nothing new. The torture policy was as bad as we thought, the war goes on, the Congressional Dems are growing more spineless by the hour, &c. &c. &c.
Fell free to go through the archives. Chances are that something I wrote eight months ago could be posted today and be just a relevant.
.
Few posts for the foreseeable future.
New posts will appear below this one.
---
ADDED: This post is supposed to stay at the to of the page. Why it isn't is beyond me. Oh well.
.
Posting will be light (or non-existent, most likely) through the holiday weekend.
The usual Saturday and Sunday stuff will still occur.
At any rate, "wide stances" are bad in public bathrooms.
.
I removed this post because it revealed my extraordinarily poor reading comprehension skills.
And I gave myself the "Idiots" tag as punishment.
.
This being the slow month of August I'll be in and out with little rhyme or reason.
.
Given that it's August things are slowing down a bit. That combined with a busy schedule means I'll be slowing down a bit as well so I'll be in and out. (I really should find a co-blogger.)
Oh, and screw the Democrats.
.
I've had some major computer problems and am going to need to perform some repairs.
Be back as soon as I can.
---
UPDATE: Everything seems to be working now. Note to Mac people: If you don't have Disk Warrior get it post haste.
.
I'm not at home so probably no posting until later this afternoon. Just sayin'
WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME!!!
.
TypePad was down for a good long while there. Still, things like this were a weekly event at Google/Blogger so I'm not gonna complain.
Better luck tomorrow.
.
David & Victoria Beckham.
This has been another edition of Things I Don't Care About.
Carry on.
.
I'm just looking at my snail-mail. There's a postcard addressed to "TV HOUSEHOLD."
It reads: "It is my pleasure to tell you that your household has been chosen from all the households in your area to participate in a Nielsen TV ratings study.
"In a few weeks, an interviewer from Nielsen Media Research will contact your household by telephone to conduct this important study. Please be sure to let everyone in your household know that we will be calling"
The postcard continues: "Your participation is strictly voluntary and all of your answers will remain confidential. Please be assured that we are not attempting to sell anything to you. Our only purpose is to learn about TV usage in your area."
[Emphasis in original]
Okay, (I'm practically salivating) help me out: How should I be the "Perfect Nielsen Family"?
.
Posting will be dodgy over the next two days.
But because I'm a nice person I will refund your subscription fees for this period.
.
My brain has finally completely locked up.
Barring the unforeseen, see you after the holiday.
.
Since I woke up at six-something this morning nothing - and I mean nothing in the news has managed to capture my attention. Iraq, the DoJ, BushCo™ in general, &c. &c. &c.? What's left to say? Presidential debates? Wake me in the autumn.
So I'll figure out something eventually; until then have fun.
.
...I just can't find anything to blog about this morn'.
How's by you?
.
I've actually bored myself. How many times can I write about the latest outrage from the DoJ? How many times can I write about the latest outrage from the White House?
Maybe I'll start catblogging.
I don't have a cat.
.
For those in the Pittsburgh area: Sen. John Kerry and Teresa Heinz Kerry will be giving a talk at the Waterworks Barnes & Noble tomorrow, Sat. 12 May at 2pm, in support of their new book This Moment on Earth.

See you there!
.
Just sayin'
.
Blogging resumes now.
.
My series of tubes seem to be a bit clogged this morning. Very annoying.
I'm going the wait awhile and see if some virtual Drano™ is applied.
.
I can't stand having to enter that goddamned security code when commenting, either. But even though I have it turned off TypePad nonetheless forces it's use under certain conditions. Those conditions seem to be anytime anybody makes any comment. Go figure.
And just for the record, TypePad, spamming at this blog is so rare that I can handle it myself, thankyouverymuch.
.
Please say "hello" to these fine lads and lassies:
Blast Off! (Sinfonian)
The Brain Police (Patrick)
.
It's late and I'm extremely tired so the promised pics will have to wait. As tomorrow is a freakishly long travel day it'll probably be Tuesday before I get them up.
Just sayin'.
Don't even ask about the tower of fried shit.
.
I'm off to New Orleans this morning to meet up with the First Draft Krewe to do some good works. And have a bit of fun.
I'm not sure what sort of connectivity I'll have let alone time but I'll try to post some updates and pictures when possible.
Normal blogging should resume Tuesday.
Laissez les bontemps roulez!
.
A light lunch might be served shortly.
.
Revised return date is Weds. 14 March. Update your calenders accordingly.
Perhaps Max Boot will celebrate my return with an extra dim column that day.
.
Due to severe blog burnout - both reading and writing - I'll be taking a break (barring super major big-time news).
"Saturday Palate Cleanser" and "A Bit Of..." should appear as normal this weekend and I'll be back to regular posting Monday 12 March.
To paraphrase the great poet and philosopher Richard Milhous Nixon, you won't have spork_incident to kick around for a few days.
.
Entertain yourselves, dammit!
.
Because Blogger is now eating his posts and not allowing new posts, TBogg will be guesting at Atrios' pad until things are sorted out. His first post.
Do I regret leaving Blogger?
What a silly question.
.
Like everone else my YouTube account has been suspended. The existing videos on this blog no longer work. And, obviously, Saturday Palate Cleanser won't be appearing until this is sorted out.
This sort of nonsense demonstrates quite well that copyright law has become nothing but a racket for the big boys.
.
Events took away from the interweb yesterday. Should be back to normal soon.
.
Busy editing photos.
Check back later to see said photos.
.
Thought I'd head down to Washington, DC today. Just to look around and see what's what. Maybe stop by the White House.
See you tomorrow.
.
Otherwise occupied today. I'll try to get some stuff up later.
.
To ensure continuing bloggy-goodness try and spare a few bucks for Firedoglake. I mean, they're covering the Libby trial from inside the courtroom. That's certainly worth something!
And continue to send good vibes in Jane's direction.
.
Jane Hamsher, founder of Firedoglake, is going under the knife tomorrow after being diagnosed with breast cancer for the third time.
Please join me in wishing her a successful and speedy recovery.

.
The gang at First Draft have a new addy: http://first-draft-blog.typepad.com/
Update bookmarks accordingly; you wouldn't want to miss out on the Gaggle, Katrina updates, or the ferrets!
.
It's between the holidays.
There's something between Ethiopia and Somalia but I haven't figured out that US proxy war so...
Anyway, go about your business.
.
Light posting for the obvious reason.
However briefly, I'll see you tomorrow.
.
Light to no blogging through tomorrow. Much to do.
.
Blogroll updated. You'd be a fool to ever want to leave here but the option is yours.
.
"Wednesday Boot" will be delayed until I can figure out how to deal with his latest mess.
.
Comments should be a little easier to use now. Some HTML is allowed.
If you have any opinions on how to make commenting better please let me know.
.
Because of prior commitments and the general ignoring over the past weeks of things-that-need-to-be-done, posting will be lighter through the weekend.
Also, I don't have any interest in writing thumb-sucking posts about What The Elections Mean nor do I have any great interest in reading such things.
Furthermore, I've decided to retire the term "Our Glorious Leader™" as it no longer has any relevance. You may all grieve in your own ways.
.
Check out Ol' Froth's post.
(A side note: I saw The Meaning of Life when it was released - what, twenty-some years ago? - and I hated it. It just wasn't Python-is for me.
That was then. The satire that escaped me at the time I now fully appreciate.)
.
I've made it so the center column adjusts its size depending on the monitor.
Let me know if there are any problems.
Thanks.

Improved readability. I hope.
.
I finally quit Blogger and have moved to my new home here at TypePad. Let's hope that this is a little more stable. I'm already enjoying greater flexibility when it comes to design.
Some things to keep in mind:
1. I've only transferred the last 100 hundred days of posts from Blogger. The complete archives will remain at the old place.2. I was unable to transfer images from the old site; rather than replace each pic post-by-post, only what appears on this current front page will appear. Again, the old place will continue to host all the archives. Some of the better Photoshop™ might be occasionally reposted. YouTube™ videos seem to work fine.
3. Likewise, comments have been left behind but who wants to read those musty old things anyway? Leaving HaloScan is an added bonus.
4. There will continue to be tweaks to the appearance and the inevitable short-term disasters that follow.
Here's hoping that this is a more congenial home.
