Time Flies

It's hard to believe that it's been seven years since George was informed that "Bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S."

Willard "Misspeaks"

The Mittster:

"Actually, just look at what Osam -- Barack Obama -- said just yesterday. Barack Obama, calling on radicals, jihadists of all different types, to come together in Iraq," Romney said. "That is the battlefield ... It's almost as if the Democratic contenders for president are living in fantasyland. Their idea for jihad is to retreat, and their idea for the economy is to also retreat. And in my view, both efforts are wrongheaded."

Now I, like most people, have started to say the wrong thing then catch myself. Here, Willard starts to say the right thing then catches himself.

Ooops. Or should I say, "Ooops."

The Base Isn't Going To Like This

Frederick of Hollywood today:

Republican presidential contender Fred Thompson said Monday that while Osama bin Laden needs to be caught and killed, the terrorist mastermind would get the due process of law.

[...]"No, no, no, we've got due process to go through" depending on the circumstances, he said. "I'm not suggesting those things happen simultaneously."

Later, a Thompson spokesman explained that Thompson meant "the same rules ought to apply to him as to everyone at Guantanamo Bay, and there ought to be due process thru a special military court or commission."

"For anyone to suggest that we shouldn't squeeze out every last bit of intelligence information has absolutely no understanding how to fight a long term global war on terrorism," spokesman Todd Harris said. "It would be very dangerous for the long-term security of our country to not try to milk bin Laden for every ounce of information he has."

I happen to agree with Fred on this one - if trials are good enough for German Nazis they're good enough for Osama - but the lizard brains that choose the GOP candidates don't care much for the rule of law.

Yet Another Bin Laden Video

What, is this guy jealous of all the attention being paid to Brittney, Paris, and Lindsay? Just give him a development deal and a weekly show already. (FOX would be perfect!)

A New Low

George this morning:

"I strongly believe that is the case,” he said, adding that it is our job to “work to change the conditions that moved 19 kids to come on airplanes to murder our citizens. … I could not send a mother’s child into combat if I did not believe it was necessary."

"19 kids"?

Honestly, there's nothing more that can be said for this sociopathic moron.

The Wisdom Of Our Preznit

On bin Laden:

"He's not out there traipsing around. He's not leading many parades [.]"

Thanks for informing us, Einstein.

Come to think of it, George isn't out there traipsing around much anymore. Except for hand-picked audiences, natch.

Fear Itself

I'd like to say that trying to scare the hell out of voters shows the Republican's desperation but they've been doing it for more than five years now. So it comes as no suprise that they're going back to the same well:

With top Republican strategists now privately predicting substantial House losses, President Bush and top GOP officials plan to spend the final days of the 2006 campaign attempting to rally partisans and limit conservative defections with dire warnings about the consequences of a Democratic Congress.

[...]

A number of GOP operatives said privately yesterday that they now see minimum losses of perhaps 18 seats, with 25 to 30 a more likely outcome. Democrats need 15 to take control of the House.

Republicans are slightly more optimistic about the Senate but nonetheless are worried about prospects for maintaining control. At this point, they see four seats likely to tip to the Democrats: Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Montana and Ohio. Democrats need six seats to take control. That means the battle could come down to Republican-held seats in Missouri, Tennessee and Virginia, all of which are considered too close to call now. Republicans see New Jersey as their best chance to gain a seat.

One way to do that is to turn to the Republican's best friend:

The Republican Party will begin airing a hard-hitting ad this weekend that warns of more cataclysmic terror attacks against the U.S. homeland.

The ad portrays Osama bin Laden and quotes his threats against America dating to February 1998. "These are the stakes," the ad concludes. "Vote November 7."

They have nothing else to offer and even this is a flip-flop:

"Terror is bigger than one person. And [bin Laden is] just -- he's a person who's now been marginalized. His network, his host government has been destroyed. He's the ultimate parasite who found weakness, exploited it, and met his match. He is -- as I mentioned in my speech, I do mention the fact that this is a fellow who is willing to commit youngsters to their death and he, himself, tries to hide -- if, in fact, he's hiding at all.

So I don't know where he is. You know, I just don't spend that much time on him, Kelly, to be honest with you."
