Will John Edwards fold?

So far the Edwards campaign has said:

Mr. Edwards’s spokeswoman, Jennifer Palmieri, said Tuesday night that the campaign was weighing the fate of the two bloggers.

Ms. Palmieri, no matter who John Edwards hires to run his blogging operation, the wingnuts will always find something wrong with them. There will always be another post, another profane utterance, another comment that irritates, insults, offends, or piques someone or some group somewhere. The wingnuts will find them all. Are you going to spend the next twenty-two months hiring and firing bloggers? Are you going to allow yourselves to be distracted by the likes of William Donohue and Michelle Maglalangadingdong? Are you going to legitimize fake controversies by reacting to them as though they were real?

Bill Donohue is a noted bigot and all-around crazy person who shouldn't be listened to.

I was eying Edwards as a candidate to support in '08 but was disturbed by his almost BushCo™-ian views on Iran. When he backed off some I was willing to let it slide (though with an increased skepticism). But his already weak-kneed response to this non-issue is making me reconsider and should he fire Marcotte and McEwan that would be a deal-breaker. It would show Edwards to be utterly spineless and would presage a disastrous campaign.

Show some spine, John.
